EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW)

The EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW) visa is one of the fastest and simplest ways to obtain U.S. permanent residency (also known as a “green card”).

Eligibility

The EB-2 NIW visa is available to individuals who have a bachelor’s degree or higher, followed by at least 5 years of work experience in their field, and who have a desire to use their experience and skills to contribute to the U.S. economy and society. 

Although not widely known, an EB-2 NIW visa is also available to applicants without a bachelor’s degree.  In place of a degree, these applicants must demonstrate that they possess “exceptional ability” in their field.  

Individuals from across all industries and professions are eligible to apply. What makes someone qualified for an EB2 NIW visa is not their specific profession.  Rather, it is their ability to successfully demonstrate that their background and skills can be of benefit to the United States.

The benefits of an EB2 NIW visa are numerous.  It is one of the fastest and simplest paths to U.S. permanent residency. Additionally, an individual does not need a U.S. sponsor or an offer from a U.S. employer in order to apply.  A further benefit is that an EB-2 NIW does not require a financial investment on the part of the applicant.

An approved EB2 NIW provides U.S. permanent residency not only for the principal applicant, but also for their immediate family members.  With an EB-2 NIW visa, family members can work, study, travel and enjoy all of the privileges of U.S permanent residency.  They are also eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship if desired.
